A Confident Beauty

I have always thought that self love an acceptance should start at an early age. I'm glad to see that our children will not have to face the same hair challenges that we have. For years we have been slaves to relaxers and other hair chemicals.  Going into the salon for that routine touch up every 4 to 6 weeks. Over processing and damaging our hair just for the sake of having bone straight hair. But with the natural hair movement on the rise we can show our daughters how to love and maintain their natural curl pattern. Hair comes in many textures and many curl patterns. We have so many options available to us that chemicals are really not needed. When I say we I mean women of all ethnicities because Caucasian women have gotten relaxers also. All of us have had our fair share of hair issues. We have so many products on the market now that are chemical free. So gone are the days of getting a relaxer at the age of four. We just have to learn to embrace what is God given. So. I applaud sesame street for the "I love my hair Video" because they reach a large audience and just maybe it will give encouragement to a child or mom that is having a hard time with accepting her hair. We need to understand that chemicals in the hair require maintenance. Children play, sweat and sleep without scarves on cotton pillow cases which robs the hair of moisture and promotes breakage. So we have to start educating ourselves on products so we can educate our children. I encourage you to read product labels and find a educated stylist that can help you along this haircare journey. Because it's a beautiful thing when you can watch a confident child grow into a confident women.
